Andrew and Yvonne R.
We first came to Chyandaunce in 1989, when our children were aged 6, 3 and 1 years old. We had previously spent the previous year at a holiday bungalow at Helston but we decided that Gulval was more central to our needs, close enough for St Ives, near to a train station and also close to Penzance, a busier, more interesting town. We have had many enjoyable holidays here, and think of Chyandaunce as our second home. Our children have now grown up, and two of them have children of their own, and both of them have brought their children here on their own since. We still come down each year, two of our children come with us and our youngest grandson aged 1. We will visit annually, as long as we are able, and hope that we can continue to do so, as long as the present owners are willing to rent it out as holiday accommodation. The house is very large, and spacious, had everything that we need, as well as an enclosed garden, and parking facilities, Perfect!!
Whatever our holiday family mix we know we can rely on the flexibility, convenience and comfort accommodated by Chyandaunce and/or Chyancrowse to provide a clean, child safe environment with comprehensive facilities which never fail to satisfy our objective to relax and enjoy our break. Within walking distance of Penzance superstores and beachfront it is also just a short trip away from the family favourites of St.Ives for boutique shopping and beaches or the rock pools and surfing at Sennen Cove which also makes an ideal base for walks around Lands End. All the necessary ingredients for a coastal holiday with the added small village benefits of local shop hostelry and restaurant.
Val and family
Chyandaunce in the village of Gulval is in a perfect location for both shops and beaches and the house has all you need for a great holiday. We have been holidaying here for many years and we love it.
We have stayed in this ‘bungalow’, holiday accommodation on several occasions because it is such good value and an excellent base for exploring South Cornwall. The proximity to Marazion, Penzance, Newlyn and Mousehole is a huge advantage as we enjoy parking the car and walking to these places. Alternatively, the bus to St. Ives passes through the village of Gulval or the train is available from Penzance. The cottage is comfortable providing all the facilities required for a relaxing break, yet contact with the world is available through e-mail and in-coming calls. It is a detached, stone property ensuring privacy and natural insulation, a good shower and a comfortable bed after a day of walking. Yes, I’ve stayed in a caravan – shivering in a cold spell and unbearable in the heat! I enjoy feeling part of the village of Gulval and look forward to the summer exhibition in the Church and the weekly cream teas for the visitors. Although there are numerous excellent restaurants in the area, we take advantage of the well-equipped self-catering kitchen in the accommodation. The big supermarkets are all within walking distance, but there are numerous local farm shops and an excellent deli in Penzance to provide those special treats. Although we return to favourites like St. Michaels Mount and Mousehole, we make new discoveries during each visit. Gulval is surrounded by National Trust properties and very close to many ancient sites. The summer exhibition in the Penlee House Gallery is always a must for the second Saturday, as it’s free! I used to enjoy short breaks on the Isles of Scilly, but it’s too expensive these days. Fortunately, the country lanes, the fields of agapanthus and the turquoise waters remind me of the Scillies. Looking forward to staying at Chyancrowse, keeps me positive throughout the year.
